Original Film Soundtrack plus four additional songs
Recorded on location in Bosnia & Hercegovina, Montenegro, Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine
Music is an essential part of the documentary film, NEW WORLD, a poetic journey through Central Europe, from the old world into the new.
Here the music from the film is interwoven with sounds and voices collected on location that bring the region to life.
From Bosnia & Hercegovina come spiritual music and traditional love songs, which are the origins of the country's current pop and opera music; from Austria-Hungary, imperial and royal military music known for its charm and melody; mournful brass-band music comes from the Maramures (Romania); a melancholic ballad is sung in the Bay of Kotor (Montenegro);
the Soviet-era song My Native Oil praises the oil industry, once known as "Galician Hell" (Ukraine); in the plains of the Hungarian Puszta a gypsy band plays I Dare Not Walk the Gypsy's Lane; and in Czernowitz (Ukraine) 92-year-old Johann Schlamp sings a pop tune from the thirties, When You're Young the World is Yours.
